Michelle Dilhara…. An actress, Social activist, Environmentalist and Author
Michelle is a past pupil of Newstead Girl’s College in Negombo.
“I did A-levels in Art stream. Mrs. Anoja Weerasinghe is my first teacher of performing arts. Later I went India for further education. After studying drama and performing arts under Ujwar Singh, I returned to Sri Lanka and studied more under Damayanti Fonseka and Randika Wimalasooriya about 2 years.I was selected by Susila production ,for the ‘Sal Sapuna’ teledrama directed by Nalan Mendis.

‘Sudu adagana kalu awidin’ teledrama is the turning point of my life. I would like to thank the Director of this teledrama, Mr. Sunil Costa, for giving me this opportunity to play the character of Ayoma.I would also like to mention Dinesh Subasingha who guided me by informing about the workshop conducted by Sunil sir. From the pronunciation of the dialogue, there was an own style in this teledrama. I wanted to give my maximum commitment and get that experience. So, I humbly feel glad to be given that award and to appreciate my commitment.

Throughout this teledrama I was in a school of drama. It was a challenge for me to act ayoma’s character. But sunil sir went beyond the role of director and became a good teacher for me. Words cannot describe the support I received from skilful actors and actresses like Chandani Seneviratne, Lakshman Mendis, Niroshan Wijesinghe.

I am an environmentalist. Currently studying for an advanced diploma in Psychology. After four year of research, I was able to publish a book in English entitled ‘social invisibility is not a fiction it exists’. Earth day network is one of the largest environmental organization in the world today. That organization’s advisory board includes super star Leonardo DiCaprio, former Vice President of US, John Kerry former US Secretory of States, Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor and Indian businessmen Anand Mahindra. They selected me as the Ambassador of Sri Lanka for the organization. I’m an activist as well as an organizer of many projects and community outreach programs to reduce environmental damage”
